a very great february kickoff
11:56pm 08/02/2005
well, gh speech and debate had a great first weekend of february. at the pepperdine invitational, our LDers made us proud and ashley and i (daniel) won parli debate and were first and second speakers, respectively.

zita won novice LD, and the other members of the nov squad (maya, rachel, jaimie, matt, anita) did a superior job, closing out semis.

suejung got a livejournal and we love her.

i love how casual this journal has become.

this weekend is stanford. get in your 100 dollars in cash to j rob. we will rock palo alto, and then we will drop it, park it, and pop it, people.

get to rawley hall by 8 AM on friday morning so we can drive. we'll be back monday afternoon.

get your scripts in for IEs by NEXT TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 15TH! mrs. taylor needs to review them, and then they need to be sent into the reviewing pool.

okay, that's it for now.

Fixed Link
12:34am 24/11/2004
Since it is Thanksgiving, I figured (obviously!) that'd it be a perfect time for me to fix the broken link to our points website on NFL Online.

So give thanks for speech and debate.

Granada won basically EVERYTHING at novice speech and novice debate. WOOO!

In other news, Taft IE Open and CSUN Speech/IEs are just around the corner. So memorize and block those pieces, people!

(affected voice) Oooookkay.

May your holiday season be trophy-filled,

Daniel Kroop

To Returning Members
03:10am 29/08/2004
mood: excited
Hey-hey out there, all you speech 'n' debaters! With Granada in full swing, it's time to start thinking about the upcoming season of forensics. Your darling President has already posted this year's event calender, and I'd just like to add a note to returning members from last year:

Due to a direct order from our ravishingly lovely (if I do say so myself) coach, Mrs. Taylor, Speech events for novices will be handled a bit differently than usual this year. If you're a returning member, you don't need to worry about the change; if you're applying to join for 2004-2005 and have never been on the team, the process will be described in detail at our meeting.

For both new and returning members, the first meeting of the GHCHS Speech and Debate Team will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2004, at lunch in Rawley Hall.

Lastly, here's a list compiled from last year's official S+D roster, courtesy of Former Secretary Shannon Dulaney. What a sweetheart.

If you are on this list, you need not audition to join the Speech and Debate Team for the 2004-2005 school year. Simply bring your dues of $10 to the next meeting and get ready to win some platterware/speech bling. Whoo-hoo!

GH Debate Camp
07:45pm 30/07/2004
mood: Elated
Today Granada culminated running its first ever inter-team debate worskhop. The workshop ran for one week teaching 8 students from 4 schools all the ins and outs of Lincoln-Douglas Debate. Peter Haderlein and Yours Truly (Ashley Bohrer) taught the students everything from common philosophers to flowing to strategy. All in all, the camp was a HUGE success and it is my sincere hope that next year more students and more schools will participate.

With less than 3 weeks to go,
President Ashley J. Bohrer

I've had this for a while; I believe I pulled it off of hs_forensics or something like that and edited it.

It's long.

using my splendid quantitative reasoning skills, i believe i have come to the conclusion that there will no longer be PUBLIC FORUM debate at chssa champs! craazy. and it failed by ONE measly vote. how sad.

look how joe (our rep.) voted (he's in yellow). i agree. yay.

so... now that we all know, how bad or good is it that contro/ted turner/public forum debate is gone?

penny for your thoughts, all.

2004 Beehive National Tournament
04:13pm 19/06/2004
Hey All! I just returned from Salt Lake City, Utah and the 2004 Beehive Nationals (Beehive nationals because apperently Utah is the beehive state... anyone else know that?). Through blood, sweat, toil, and tears, your GHCHS team made all of us very proud with their performances. Ryan Lawrence broke to the run-off round for contestants who had a record of 8-4 and lost to someone from Greenhill. Peter Haderlein and Marty Rod performed one of the best rounds of their lives, making the judges, the viwers, and themselves tear during the performances and recieving a first place in a round at nationals. They didn't break in Duo, but both broke in supplemental events. Peter places 15th in the nation in Extemporaneous Commentary and Marty broke to the third round of Poetry. Yours truly did not break in US Extemp or Commentary, but survived 3 cuts in impromptu, placing somewhere between 80 and 36. More updates about that when i hear.
The tournament not only provided immeasurable enjoyment and tested our speaking abailities, but also taught me an ineffable amount about speech and debate. I am excited to be able to share that knowledge and the benefit thereof next year. I hope everyone of you will get to Nats next year!

With Love,

Ashley J. Bohrer

Welcome to GH Forensics!
03:35pm 12/06/2004
mood: amused

Well, the 2003-2004 school year has come to a close, and the Speech and Debate team (Forensics, for those of you who are "in the know") can claim many victories its own. From the Novice League Tournament at GHCHS to Nationals all the way in Salt Lake City, Utah (your new president, Ashley, leaves tomorrow!), the year has proved a success on many fronts.

I'll take this time to formally introduce the cabinet for the 2004-2005 school year. We're here to help!

President: Ashley J. Bohrer
Vice President: Daniel V. Kroop
Secretary: Hannah M. Reff
Co-Treasurers: Emily Heller & Chan Park
Co-Historians: Rachel Kizito & Jamie Franklin

This journal has been set up to provide a proper place for the dissemination of all the news that's NOT fit to print. And by that, I mean there's not time during the meeting OR we all might need a reminder.

To crystallize these three main points:

1. Welcome
2. New Cabinet
3. Purview of the LJ

Okay, then! Have a great summer everyone, and we'll see you in school!

Daniel V. Kroop
Vice President
